Tile Trends for 2014

Tile Trends for 2014

The Decorative Materials design team recently returned from Cersaie, the International Ceramic Tile Expo in Italy, and they graciously shared what they saw and discovered during the trip.

“Porcelain and Pattern are two massive trends for 2014,” claims Margot Hampleman, founder and president of Decorative Materials. “These two trends, not necessarily together, are currently dominating Europe.”

Porcelain, which previously had a “cheap” stigma, is controlling the market. Italians, historically the masters of stone, have turned to advanced ink jet glazing processes creating porcelain than not only looks like real stone, wood or quartzite, but also feels like it! These advances, combined with the ability to create large format tiles, have broadened the porcelain market.

Pattern is another dominant trend. Patterns reminiscent of Moroccan designs placed together in a patchwork configuration are popping up all over. From black and whites to vibrant hues, stay tuned for these upcoming textile inspired designs.
