Technology + Design

Technology + Design

Technology seems to move at the speed of light. New applications, software, and technology tools pop up every day. Resources for the interior design profession are no exception. Between websites and mobile apps…there’s an amazing amount of inspiration and fun gizmos available right at our fingertips, bringing design into our everyday lives. Here are a few we recommend:

Houzz:  It has been called  “The Wikipedia of interior and exterior design sites” and is a website and online community about architecture, interior design, landscape design and home improvement.  Both the website and mobile app feature interior and exterior home photos, articles written by architects, interior designers and home design experts, product recommendations, and a user forum.  You can browse photos by room, style and location, upload photography, and bookmark photos in personal collections the site calls “ideabooks.” This is an absolute go-to within the design and building industry. Both the website and mobile app are at the top of our recommendation list.

Ben Color Capture:  When selecting a new paint color, this app developed by Benjamin Moore is a must have. It uses the latest technology to allow you to take a picture of any paint color on a wall, a piece of fabric, a vase, etc. and the app will match it with a very similar Benjamin Moore paint color. It also allows you to browse through inspirational pictures, create color combos and save your ideas. You can learn more about the app and download it FOR FREE  here.

Dream Home: If you often find yourself clipping out magazine pictures of perfectly designed rooms and collecting binders of inspirational ideas, then the Dream Home app is something you are going to love. The Dream Home app is full of thousands of picture galleries of numerous homes, rooms and design types, and allows you to clip the photos you like  and save them. You will also be able to upload pictures of rooms you’ve designed for others to view. You can purchase the app for $0.99  here.

Muse Studio: Another great web resource for saving your ideas and inspirations, which you have bookmarked online. You can also upload images you have already saved to your computer. Their site also allows you to browse through a curated network of professionals for your next project. You can search by skill set or project type, depending on what kind of expertise you might be looking for. And our favorite part… this was developed right here in Colorado. Visit the Muse Studio website here.

Apartment Therapy: Their mission statement pretty much says it all: ” Helping people make their homes more beautiful, organized and healthy by connecting them to a wealth of resources, ideas and community online.”  It is truly the leading lifestyle blog and publishing company focused on home design and decor. They are particularly great at featuring ideas on budget design, before and after processes, green design and designing for small spaces. You can view their website here.
