Heart of the Home

Heart of the Home

Kitchens have always been considered the heart of the homes so, understandably, we want our kitchens to look and function at their best. From small upgrades to full remodels…there are some inspiring new products on the market that are: earth-friendly; high-tech; colorful; designed for fresh, healthy food preparation; and all about convenience-meets-multifunctionality.  Everybody wants an open kitchen-family room for gathering and conversation.  Some people are completely foregoing a dining room when the kitchen includes eat in space at either a large bar or table within the kitchen.

Open-plan kitchens are now being designed with fewer wall cabinets, though obviously this depends on the size of the kitchen and storage for the client.  Kitchens that feel open and not too top-heavy provide a more minimalist look.

By getting rid of bulk in the kitchen, through reducing wall cabinets, more wall  space is available for larger windows and provides an airy workspace.  Open shelving is a practical solution for these kitchen spaces, providing practical storage or used simply for display of your most beautiful items. The right backsplash behind open shelving or open cabinets adds a finished look to these untraditionally open spaces.

Designs that marry modern and traditional elements are influential right now. Materials are being mixed, such as stainless steel with wood, and wood with marble.

The gleaming finish of metallics provides a stunning accent to most palette choices, as well as playing with unique textures. While silver, chrome and stainless steel are three metallics commonly used in the kitchen, we’re still seeing warmer metals, like gold, copper and bronze highly used.

We love textured and tactile materials such as natural marble and granite in honed finishes, as well as engineered stones that replicate raw finishes.  Wood continues to be popular, but in finishes that represent it in its natural form, rather than high-gloss or smooth finishes.
