Design Library: Glamorous Retreats by Jan Showers
Now that the holidays are over and we are settling into the new year, you may be in the mood for a little escape. Even if you don’t have actual travel plans on your calendar, picking up Jan Showers new book, Glamorous Retreats (Abrams, $50) will whisk you back in time to the design of 1930’s Hollywood and jet-set villas of the 1960’s. A dozen of Showers’ choice commissions are on display in this new book showcasing finely appointed escapes and secondary residences by notable personalities.
Jan Showers is a renowned interior designer as well as the owner and proprietor of a showroom in the Dallas Design District where she curates and sells antiques purchased on buying trips to Paris, New York, London and Venice.
Architectural Digest says of her design aesthetic:
Inside the cover of Glamorous Retreats, you will be treated to imaginary trips to an equestrian compound, a chic beach sanctuary, a luxe lodge and a mountain hideaway. Along the way, Showers points out design details we might have missed, or unique considerations that were made for her clients. A truly inspiring collection of work and an absolute must for your library collection.
