A Chill in the Air…
Even though Fall doesn’t officially begin until September 23, last week’s shift in weather let us know that we can definitely begin planning. Pumpkins in the garden, the crisp cool breeze, apple pie, fires crackling in the evening, comfort food and hot toddies…all signs of cooler weather and a new season headed our way. Celebrate fall’s bounty amidst the season’s brightest foliage with a big trend we’ve seen growing across the country… throwing an autumn farm-to-table dinner party. Fall is the ideal time of year for alfresco entertaining: It’s cool enough to enjoy the outdoors comfortably, and changing leaves offer up a veritable kaleidoscope of color. What exactly is farm-to-table?
Farm-to-table also refers to a movement concerned with producing food locally and delivering that food to local consumers. Linked to the local food movement, the movement is promoted by some in the agriculture, food service, and restaurant communities. It may also be associated with organic farming initiatives, sustainable agriculture, and community-supported agriculture.
Chefs and farmers all across the country have been celebrating this movement by creating amazing dinner parties, complete with beautiful table scapes and mouth watering menus…sometimes for hundreds of people at a time! Even if you plan to host this party in your own backyard, and only for a few close family members and friends, you’ll need to time the event when leaves will be at their peak. An outdoor party designed to let guests take in the fall color could be the highlight of your event!
In addition, to create a beautiful table, draw inspiration from the season’s flowers, plants and foilage to create a casual table setting perfect for dining alfresco. With an amazing menu and a few seasonal touches, you can easily create a show-stopping setting for a fall dinner party!
